NCBA and Optiven Strategic Partnership to Unlock Affordable Property Ownership Across Kenya and the Diaspora

NCBA Bank and Optiven Limited have renewed their strategic partnership to make property ownership more accessible to Kenyans at home and in the diaspora through innovative financing solutions that support land acquisition, home construction, and the purchase of residential and commercial properties.

The renewed partnership comes at a time when demand for property ownership continues to grow across Kenya, driven by rapid urbanization, population growth, and increased investment interest from diaspora communities. According to industry estimates, Kenya faces a housing deficit of more than 250,000 units annually, highlighting the need for innovative financing solutions that bridge the affordability gap and support home ownership aspirations.

Under the renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), customers will access financing of up to 105% for first-time homebuyers, including an additional 5% to cater for closing costs such as stamp duty, property valuation, and legal fees. The facility also offers up to 90% financing for residential property purchases and up to 80% financing for plot purchases, with flexible repayment periods of up to 25 years.

As part of the partnership, customers will also benefit from access to PropertyDuka, NCBA’s digital property marketplace that connects prospective buyers with vetted property listings and financing solutions. Through PropertyDuka, customers can conveniently search, compare, and identify suitable investment opportunities while seamlessly applying for financing, creating an end-to-end property ownership journey.

The partnership spans NCBA’s full property finance portfolio, with financing available in Kenyan Shillings, US Dollars, British Pounds, and Euros, providing greater convenience and flexibility for diaspora customers seeking to invest in property back home.

Commenting on the partnership, Dennis Njau, Group Director, Retail Banking at NCBA, said:

“At NCBA, we believe property ownership is one of the most powerful ways individuals and families can build wealth and secure their future. Our renewed partnership with Optiven reflects our commitment to helping more Kenyans turn their dreams of land and home ownership into reality.

Through innovative financing solutions and digital platforms such as PropertyDuka, we are simplifying the customer journey by making it easier to identify investment opportunities, access financing, and own property. By combining Optiven’s trusted property offerings with NCBA’s financing expertise, we continue to live our purpose of Banking on Belief, Empowering Ambition for every customer we serve. This partnership allows us to support customers at every stage of their ownership journey, whether they are purchasing their first plot, building their first home, or expanding their investment portfolio.”

The partnership covers an extensive geographic footprint across the country. Customers will have access to Optiven developments in Nairobi and its environs, Mombasa, Mtwapa, Diani, Ukunda, Lamu, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nakuru, Nanyuki, Meru, Nyeri, Kakamega, Machakos, Kericho, Bungoma, and other key growth centers, providing investors with diverse property options across Kenya.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Dr. George Wachiuri, CEO of Optiven Group, said:

“This renewed partnership reflects our shared belief that every Kenyan deserves a place to call home. By bringing together Optiven’s proven property developments and NCBA’s flexible, customer-friendly financing solutions, we are creating a property ownership pathway that is realistic, transparent, and customer-centric.

Our properties are strategically located, affordable, and ready for development. Through this collaboration, customers can enjoy greater financial support and a more seamless ownership experience, enabling them to pursue their investment aspirations with confidence and peace of mind.”

The renewed partnership further strengthens the collaboration between the two organizations by combining Optiven’s expertise in quality land and property development with NCBA’s comprehensive financial solutions and digital platforms. Together, the two institutions aim to remove barriers that have historically limited access to property ownership while providing end-to-end support from land acquisition and construction to property completion and long-term mortgage management.

As Kenya’s property market continues to evolve, the partnership is expected to accelerate uptake of structured property financing and empower more individuals and families to achieve long-term financial security through property ownership.
