Absa Bank Accelerates Digital Push with Integrated Finance Solutions

Absa Bank Kenya is accelerating its digital transformation strategy with the development of integrated digital financial solutions designed to make banking faster, more accessible and more closely connected to customers’ everyday financial needs.

The bank’s digital push includes Absa Next, a cloud-based digital banking platform targeting Kenya’s youthful and digitally active population. The platform is expected to receive a wider rollout later in 2026, with customers already being onboarded for testing. Absa is also working with Kenyan fintech companies on data and credit-scoring capabilities to strengthen the new digital offering.

The move forms part of a broader technology investment programme. Absa Bank Kenya spent approximately KSh1.16 billion on technology in 2025, while artificial intelligence is increasingly being applied across areas including lending, cybersecurity, trade finance and analytics.

At the group level, Absa says its technology investments are already improving the speed of financial services. In business banking, digital onboarding has reduced SME account-opening turnaround times from about two days to less than 30 minutes, while credit decisioning has been accelerated from several days to about four hours.

The bank’s strategy also includes embedded finance and digital payments, with Absa developing platforms and partnerships that allow financial services to be integrated into wider business and customer ecosystems. Its 2025 strategy report identifies the development of a challenger digital-only bank and embedded finance as key components of its digitally powered business strategy.

For Kenya’s banking sector, the development reflects the growing shift from conventional banking channels towards mobile-first, data-driven and integrated financial services, as banks compete to serve increasingly digital customers while working alongside fintechs and other ecosystem players.
